    Tapping

    Good Morning,

Well once the transmission in my Firehawk is put back in my next project is going to be that damn ticking noise coming from the drivers side valve cover on my V6.

How hard would it be to crack open the valve cover and see what is causing the issue? Would I be able to tell if its a bent pushrod or a broken rocker arm or something along those lines by just looking at it? I swear its the the first cylinder on the right but I'm not 100% sure.

I bet it is a ticking lifter. My suggestion would be to get a can of seafoam and put half the can in the oil, then start the car and let it run through the motor. I would probably put about 10-20 miles on it with the seafoam then change the oil. This should fix your problem, plus its alot easier than pulling the valve cover off.

Yea lifter tick is a very common occurrence with the 3.8. Try the seafoam, and if that doesn't work pull the valve cover to make sure its not a loose rocker or bent pushrod. if those are in the clear a partial collapsed lifter it is.

Check under the exhaust manifold for carbon track @ the gasket too. A slightly leaking manifold gasket will tick sometimes too. Good luck.
