255 vs. 245 16in

are the 16 in rims 8 in wide and would the 255 make a bigger foot print than the 245........any tire suggestions,Im thinking about the firestone wide oval quoted at 503.00 dollars out the door. Thanks

footprint is determined more by the tread width versus the section width. you can get a "wider" tire with the same 245. http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85075
