Right after I sold the '97 M6 (that slightly modded ran pretty much right beside auto LS1s) the guy I sold it to raced one. He was pulling very slightly till he missed third and by the time he got it in gear his front bumper was about at the GTs rear, took all of 3rd and a little 4th to get back beside it. The GT was an auto. I wouldn't count the GTs out, and I for one think they look good too. Stock for stock would definitly be a race to watch

Yeah I think it would be an interesting race, stock vs stock I'd bet on the 05 GT judging from times and dynos I've seen.

    I've got a bolt-on LT1 (A4 w/ 3.23s, shorty headers, CAI, catback) but I haven't yet had a run in w/ a stockish GT. I'm hoping I can take one as it is now.

my buddy had the same mods but no headers but pullies. I pulled him by 2 cars in my X piped+ shifter 01 GT. He was a Vert though.

here in florida, when the 05s finally hit the local track, i was seeing 14.2 -14.4 completely stock. one guy came back with a catback and filter and broke into the 13s. when i had my 94 z28 w/2.73 gears years ago, i hit 13.98 completely stock with consistent 14.0x all night. so, it would be a real close race. would depend on who got the jump first.

seems like the new 05s are barly quicker if at all then the older 99-04 gt's

14.1-.2 is what i used to see the near stock 2v's doen

They arent that quick mainly because of their weight and the fact their ECUs control the throttle from going WOT. A tune does wonders on these cars. Its like they have a blower slapped on them.

I'd like to see that race too. I'm really curious to see if an '05 or newer Ford can take a Chevy that was made for the same market in '93.

stock for stock? Never seen a stock cambird lt1 run a good time at the track. If it was a 99-04gt, my money would be on the GT.

It looks like Mustang dynos about 10 hp more to the wheels than a Z28 LT1. I don't have enough info on the SS version of the LT1 but I would guess that it puts down about 10hp more than the Mustang.

    The average LT1 Camaro T56 runs about a 14.29 @ 98.42 mph stock.(0-60 5.77)
    The average LT1 Camaro SS T56 runs about a 13.82 @ 102.99 mph. (0-60 5.47)

    The average '05 Mustang GT T5 runs 13.96 @ 102.37 stock. (0-60 5.36)

    The 99-04 gt T5 runs about 14.27 @ 98.83 stock. (5.8 0-60) And puts about 20hp less to the ground than a Z28 LT1.

Times are taken from the averages of many road tests that I have in a VERY large Excel spreadsheet. Dyno numbers are from a large collection of stock dyno tests that I have in another large Excel spreadsheet.

I honestly do not have a large enough sample of LT1 dynos yet, but this is probably pretty close. So far, I show the average LT1 T56 dynoing about 253hp to the wheels in 1996.

Edited to correct name for quoted person. Some people sure get pissed of for the lamest reasons.

If you quote me, dont try to be cute and change my name to some lame ass joke.

The problem with a lot of the lt1 is they are aging and arent well kept. The ones that are and low mileage usually run well.

were tryn to put that into perspective...say like my buds 40k 97ss......to be honest though......my last lt1 expeiriance.....120k auto formula ran consistant 14.1s@98 w/ only pully catback and air filter...(373s or 410s would put a hurtn on and 05gts pride....).....and it def had a hard life......id really go good upwards of 120 thats when it startn beatn down the 2v's ....so beat or not if they run haha itll be a good run.....05gt are toilets...if a 100k formula stayed within 2 to 3 cars which id def would.....id be imbarrest to own and 05 gt with over 10 years more technology...

ford did crazy things in 2003!!! i love em......mach , blown cobra and the lightning....even (though still the same sence 01)...great rides......then they bring out an obease toilet....in 05 that cant beat the 260hp versions that came before them....

I HATE THE NEW STANGS....AND THE NEW CAMARO LOOKS LIKE A$$ AS WELL...DODGE IS THE ONE THATS COOK'N (UNFORTUNATLY)CHECK THE NEW CHALLENGER OUT!

I've ran a couple 05 GT's and I would say the LT1's I've raced put up a better fight. The 05 sure is better then the last gen 'stangs but no way in hell are they averaging mid 13 second runs...or I'll eat crow. High 13's is what I'm betting you'll see most stock ones run. my 2 cents
