Stock C5 Z06s are measurably quicker than a GT500, everything being equal.

C6 with an LS3 is going to beat a GT500. C6 with the LS2 is a good race with the edge to the C6. The C5 Z06 can break into the 11's stock. I did it with mine. The C5 Z06 is the winner in that race. GT500 is definately getting beat top end by the Vette's. Aerodynamics are not a friend to the Mustang.

Aero. plus gearing is key especially top end. It has tons of power but the weight is also an issue, its not a huge deal at the higher speeds but since it has a couple of other faults it really hurts the shelby. I have to admit ive seen a few around and they look good, im not a fan of black but it looks sick. It will demolish my car and any car that can beat me i have much respect for would i ever pick it over a C5Z or a C6Vette, no way but if your really into stangs and gotta have one thats a good looking ride that has potential of being modded to go really fast.

Sadly weight is the enemy of our current muscle cars. The gt500 was the first to disapoint us. Now we have a few more 400+ hp cars but they're only running high 12s to low 13s.
99 35th GT: 5.0 stroker, twin 60 turbos, aeromotive return style fuel system, full suspension.
575/563 @ 12lbs-adding more soon...
07 Trailblazer SS(wife's): 22s, 3200 stall, cammed and bolt ons, lowered. 405/405

Yup. The GT500....as heavy as it is with the iron block, blower, associated material, etc....is only a very few lbs heavier than the N/A 2010 Camaro, and significantly lighter than the Challenger.
Neat cars, but what porkers they build these days....I'm just not interested in any of them.
