    Custom OTRCAI is on

For those that aren't familure with this OTRCAI, It is a custom hand laid fiberglass unit being made by svede1212. ...oh and it only fits the 04 because of a difference in radiator height and distance to the TB.

The short version ... installed it, started the car, and man the sucking sound inside the car is insane it's so loud. I though the LPE was loud.

... so the story begins. Just wanted to get this started tonight so that I can report on as I get some progress.

The version I ordered is for the 4 inch hose/ 100mm MAF. For the summer I decided to go with a speed density tune. Maybe in the fall I'll go to a 100mm MAF to see what difference there is with it. Anyways, my setup is 90mm Fast Intake and 90mm Nick Williams TB. I used a 3 inch long straight hose and 3 inch long hump hose, each 4 inches in diameter. The hoses are attached using a 4 inch joiner made by Vibrant Performance. As you can see I had 6 inches to work with. ...well almost. Because of the angle from the TB to the intake, the bottom distance is 5 3/4 inches....meaning I had to trim the straight hose a little. ...this should give me plenty of space to get a 100mm MAF in there if I want.

The other unique variable to my setup is my Gravana Type-W (Woodward) hood. There is plenty of space for the intake with this hood.

As for my tune, I disconnected the sensor to the stock MAF and the car would not hold an idle at all. Reconnected it, the car started, found idle and ran very well considering the MAF and IAT are not in the air flow. This should be good enough though to get the car loaded on my trailer and off for the SD tune.

I have a track rental to go to next month so I should be able to get some good info on what performance benefits I get out of this intake. I haven't done any changes to the car since last year and have 98 runs that I compare against from last year and 12 more from the last month. I'm also interested in seeing how it performs verses the Vararam design.

Cool. Does the radiator shroud go back on? The shroud forces air flow through the radiator and without it you lose major air flow through the radiator you know. Not being a wet blanket just curious.

Shouldn't really say since he's doing these custom for people and I don't know if he's charging people the same price. I will say it was for about the same as pre-order price for Vararam's new one.

Looks very good. I have been toying with the OTRCAI idea since I read the threads on LS1GTStalk.

I'm going to try SD. Don't know how much experience my tuner has with it. I guess I should get HP tuner and learn it so that I can adjust as needed since I understand that SD needs a lot of road time to get really dialed in properly.
mistermike, however, told me that EFI live would be better for SD.

...if the SD doesn't work out I'll go with a 100mm MAF. I'm having trouble getting details on these from vendors though.

...cut the radiator shroud last night just need to file down a few places, then I'll post up a picture. My plan is have my friends bodyshop paint the CAI and shroud PBM to match the car.

yea im still running my maf

the rad shroud you can use sandpaper to make the edges smooth vs a file much easier and the paint well its a great idea but hate to say it eventually will break up know from expereince im guessing because of the amount of heat ( worth a try ) good luck

The filter doesnt extend down that far and behind the grills is my Derale tranny cooler. The cooler does have a fan that blows upward at a angle towards the bottom of the filter.
