    Nitrogen Enriched Fuel!? Sarge!?

Your a smart bastard sarge... explain this cuz google aint.

"Starting today, all Shell gas stations will be pumping a new fuel: Shell's nitrogen-enhanced gasoline.

Before you start speculating about the wonder fuel of tomorrow, understand that this nitrogen-enriched gasoline differs from the gas Shell was pumping yesterday in its engine-cleaning detergents and additives.

Shell claims that its nitrogen-enriched gasoline cleans better than before and protects better against engine buildup. Of note, all three grades of gasoline will contain the nitrogen-enriched detergents, with its V-Power premium grade containing five times the government-mandated amount. The results are fewer intake deposits, cleaner combustion chambers, and less fuel injector fouling and intake valve sticking.

"A method and system for reducing nitrous oxide emissions from an internal combustion engine. An input gas stream of natural gas includes a nitrogen gas enrichment which reduces nitrous oxide emissions. In addition ignition timing for gas combustion is advanced to improve FCE while maintaining lower nitrous oxide emissions."

Citing the rising complexity of new direct-injected and hybridized engines, Shell also claims that this new fuel is better suited to the rigors of modern drive trains.

Considering that detergents and additives are federally mandated in the United States, and just about every brand of gasoline being pumped today makes some mention of the power of their detergents, we don't see Shell's gas as being very revolutionary. We're also inclined to believe that the "nitrogen enhanced" title is more of a gimmick than anything else. However, any step toward cleaner, better-running engines is a good one in our book.

Shell stated that it didn't expect this new nitrogen-enhanced gasoline to result in an increase in fuel price. But with gas prices being set by individual stations and changing daily, that will be nearly impossible to measure."

nitrogen doesn't ignite, and wont provide more power, so lets put the performance effects to rest right off the bat.

its for marketing... people hear they have new "nitrogen enriched" fuel and go to shell to buy their gas because they believe it will make their car run better

Exactly. I'm no Sarge, but I did have an A in highschool and college Chemistry! and I know a little bit about engines....and I personally have NO idea how Nitrogen could possibly be beneficial in a gas tank. Make the engine run cooler perhaps? Meh.

clean vlaves and injectors however do have a performance aspect..but not nitrogen itself you are correct

A method is disclosed for cleaning microelectronic surfaces using an aerosol of at least substantially solid argon or nitrogen particles which impinge upon the surface to be cleaned and then evaporate and the resulting gas is removed by venting along with the contaminants dislodged by the cleaning method.
(not engine related but shows it has cleaning properties)

one thing nitrogen can do is absorb alot of heat ..and i also believe since it is very stable and likes to bond with other molecules it can be easily tampered with to bond to other molecules etc

It must work the same way as nitrogen in the tires.

Maybe they hook the engine to the tires for enhanced nitrogenness.

Yeah, that's it! Next they'll be enhancing the driver with nitrogen oxide!

The recent referencing to nitrogen enrichment in motor gasoline has to do with the deposit control additive that is required by federal law to be used in the gasoline. All commercial deposit control additives, which help control deposits in injectors or carburetors and on intake valves and intake ports, contain nitrogen. Nitrogen enrichment is nothing new. But, nitrogen alone does not provide the engine keep-clean and cleanup necessary to help with good performance, maintaining fuel economy, and keeping emissions low. The basic polymer in the deposit control molecule also plays an important role. The molecular structure of polymer also can affect the amount of combustion chamber deposits that form and possibly affect intake valve sticking. Some deposit control additives contain several components to optimize performance. The concentration of the deposit control additive in the gasoline is another critical factor. So, just promoting nitrogen enrichment doesn’t provide a meaningful assessment of a deposit control additives’ performance.

Well no secret nitrogen molecules love to attach to other molecules....think of them as Hi-Po in a porno movie....lil boogers running around "attaching" to anything they can stick their lil nitrogen weeiners in.....what else.....we all know nitrogen absorbs water/condensation....so having nitrogen in the gasoline would possibly absorb water rendering it harmless...and we all know water in tanks has always been a problem....lemme see.....nitrogen is cheaper than chemical additives.....so it makes business sense for Shell.....
However....I am on the sidelines as to the "cleaning power" it would take a shitload of nitrogen to really "clean" anything......I mean a shitload......so by saying nitrogen enriched gasoline cleans my engine is like flying Orion to California to pee on the fires.....now the boy would have to be one serious peeing mother fucker to even put out a square foot of fire.....see where I'm going with this.....marketing.....help us....
