I imagine that being more of a waste of gas than an actual race. Stock vs stock is probably a 5-10 car beating. I can't imagine if the LS1 has any mods.
As far as spinning an engine to the ceiling to make power, that depends on where your powerband is. I just read about a GN in GM Hightech that only shifts at 5300 rpms, but too mad it ran 9s. I have no problem with the LS1s very flat powerband. I have been in an S2000 before and it has incredible handling, to say the least, but I thought it felt very slow IMO.

I was commenting on how silly I thought it was to say an LS1 has a strong "top end" when comparing it to an S2000. To an S2000 an LS1 has a stong bottom end, a strong mid range and a time to shift. An S2000 has a weak bottem end, a weak midrange and decent top end.
Give some credit where it is due, an S2000 is a fun sporty track car. 9000rpm, top down, some nice bends...

if you dont launch the ls1 properly you wont catch the s2000, the honda driver could drop the clutch at whatever rpm, the ls1 doesnt have that luxury

The S2000 is track car not a drag car. With 160+tq what do you think? Hey for what it is depending on the year 2.0L or 2.2L 4banger it can hang with V8's, that's not too bad in my books.
How many other n/a 4 bangers can do that?

In whole the S2000 is a nice road car. It highlights what Honda does best. Also I just don't picture the majority of people that buy these cars caring much about the 1/4 mile. It's more about the total feel and sound of the high revs that attract people to this car. Where as the majority of people that by american muscle do care about 1/4 mile times. As for saying the Honda 2.0 n/a can hang with V8's. My power drill in the garage revs up to 15,000rpms and it does a great job at what it does but I don't see people pulling out there V8's and upgrading to a S2000 motor.

I'am not saying guys with ls1 engine's should take out there motors and put an S2000 motor in. All I'am saying is that for what it is it's not too bad and that it can hang with V8's that's all. Not beat them.
Maybe you should stop playing with your drill so much.

Point of my post ws this, and if you reread my original post you will se what I mean. Don't tell me that I will take yo uoff the line, but once you rev you will catch me up top in a stock S2000, BULLSHIT. I would be cars ahead by the time he got up to 9000 RPMS.

Hey, I see what your saying and as a total package I think the S2000 is a good car. What I am saying is if you look at the motor by itself 195rwhp its impressive for n/a 4cyl but it really only hanges with V6s n/a. Just picture if you took an S2000 and a LS6 Corvette and swapped motors.

Well I'am picturing that and I would buy a S2000 with a 6.0L LS2 motor in it.

My friends S2000 got beat up by my buddys LS1 SS. He keeps trying to call me out to race but it would just be a waste of gas for me, I beat that same buddies SS in my LT1. I rode in the S2000 once with him though and it does seem like it would be fun to drive through the twisties.

I can't stand it when people think because they have a car that raps out at higher RPM's it will pass an LS1 in top end. There is a guy down the street from me with an RSX type S with nitrous and cool air who said I would beat him off the line (in the LS1 Formula) but he would catch me at the top of second because his rpm's would be higher. Sure his rpm's are higher... but it doesnt take the little 2.0L long to get there... and its not like it gains horsepower because of higher RPM's. He thinks his car tears up the highway because of the high RPM's.. I saw it get beat baaad from a 50 mph roll by a 2005 GTO (auto) with me and 2 other guys in it.

But he still won't catch you. 2.0l just isn't enough. It leaves the other part of the equation (torque) lacking.Last edited by john; 01-25-2006 at 11:51 AM.

I agree a n/a 2.0L would not win but there a some turbocharger 2.0L that can.
For example the 4G63 Talon or Evo motor,or SR20DET in some nissan's.

TQ * rpm / 5252 = HP.
The power of an engine (HP) is determined by how much torque(work load) it produces in a time frame.
If I have two workers at a loading dock and
worker A can lift 300lbs at a time and
worker B can lift 100lbs at a time
Worker B will have to work three times as fast to do the same job.
This is the same when comparing a 2.0L to a 5.7L.
A 2.0L puts out apprx. 125ftlbs of torque
A 5.7 puts out around 310ftlbs.
Now the only way a 2.0L can compete, is by producing 125ftlbs, as many times as possible.
125ftlbs * 8000rpms / 5252 = 190hp.
Were as the 5.7L, will only need 3300rpms to produce the same amount of power.
310ftlbs * 3300rpms / 5252 = 194hp.
An LS1 will produce 310ftlbs at 5300rpms
310* 5300rpms / 5252 = 312hp
For A 2.0L to produce the same amount of power
312 * 5252 / 125ftlbs = 13,108rpms
