made 2 out of aluminum today just to see how they'd turn out. Not to bad. Much lighter but the aluminum stock is more expensive than steel. $20 shipped for these 2 aluminum. I have 2 of the orignals left also for $12.50 shipped.

I bought my car used and my battery finally went out a few days ago- gues what? I have nothing holding the battery in except the neg and pos cables!
Did 1998 z28's come with a hold down bracket similar to the one you make? Or did they come with a little piece of wedge-like plastic that holds the battery on the lip on the bottom of the battery? Are you guys using both the plastic wedge thing and the hold down bracket?
Sorry for all the questions-thanks in advance.

Do you have a pic of the aluminum bracket?

it looks identical to the steel bracket. I can take a picture of it tomorrow and post it.
The battery is held in place by a wedge on one side and a plasic lip on the other side ( towards the front of the car). That plastic lip breaks off. Very common and hard to fix. I epoxied mine and got a year out of it but it didn't last. I couldn't really see any easy way to drill it and put a screw or something in it either.

I'm also only doing paypal now(ibzrg6@aol.com). I didn't get paid for one of the brackets doing it by mail so it's paypal only now. I was just wanting to give people a chance to test fit them before sending payment but I also don't want to give these things away to people plus be out shipping costs.

Anyone know what size bolt is required -on the side of the battery the neg and pos terminals are on- to hold the battery down? Also what length is it?

I'll check this afternoon and reply here with the size. It's probaby ~2" long or better and I'll have to check on the thread and pitch. Should be pretty common. Wish I would've known you didn't have one.....I probably have a bolt here that would've worked.

Thanks - I actually forgot about it and thought I had one that would work (I have a box full of nuts, bolts, washers) but sure enough- no luck.
I believe the head on the bolt is 13mm but I am unsure if the head size and thread size would coincide with each other.

forgot all about this..... I just went and checked. Looks like it's a M8x1.25 bolt and it's 3.25" long. The head is 13mm but that's not a big deal as long as you get the size and pitch right. The 1.25 pitch nut I was using was threading funny on the stock bolt but I think that's because the stock bolts threads are a little buggered up. I threaded it all the way to the top though and it did thread up.
