    lt1 vs ls1

before i get into my race i want to recap WIFE SHOCKS LT1 story. we were in town and she wasn't wanting a race she was just tryin to say don't pick on me cause im a chick!

any way i'm on my way from tech to day and i'm in a hury to get to work when i come up on a 94-95 z. he caught back up and jumped his car then a few hundred feet he turns into a gas station. so i wip around and talk to the guy. he says hes got a little mods but nothing special. (he said hes pushing 325hp)but i notice hes running retreads so i know its not taken care of! so i wait for him to finish pumping and i pull out and wait for him. he gets beside me (we're going 45 or so) i pull into 2nd and wait. he nailed it and i let him pull ahead til his rear tire is at my front clip. i punch 2nd and when i shift to 3rd i have 2-3 cars on him. the next light he said you must have no2 their is no way you pulled me. so i let him look over my car. i smile and told him to get more mods. by the way i got a ram hood and exhaust.

nice kill! ! but how would a lt1 keep up with a ls1?
what sort of mods would i have to have.
right now ive got a K&N, headers, full exhaust and a foot of rubber on all four
planning to port the headers, 58mm ported TB and 4:10's coming soon.
How much do i ahve with my mods now and how much will i have after?
never taken my car to the track.

When I swapped my old L98, to the LT1, it was immediately obvious that they like to make their power up top. A K&N filter is good, full exhaust a must... but don't bother with a 58mm throttle body if you're running the stock cam and intake. Even if you stepped up to a CC-306 cam, you're stock throttle body (albeit, ported out), is more than sufficient.

Don't worry about you're rear gears just yet. Focus you're time and money on the cam and head selection first.

What are your goals with the car? Do you only want to beat a stock LS1?

Get you a cam with about the same profile as a hot LS1 cam... 220ish* @ .050"/ .550ish" lift. Trust me, it's very driveable on the good ol' Chevy 350. Port your heads, or better yet, get you a set of Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads(out of the box, they outflow most others in the class, ported), and smooth the runners out... a little rough on the intake side, and polished on the exhaust side. Go with LT headers and a big catback(or at least 2 1/2" duals), then focus on suspension mods to put that power to the ground. Or pavement, whichever one you race on.

That should be more than adequate to school most LS1s

Nice thanx alot. Ive pretty much got all the suspension mods i need to put the power down, all i need is power. Only thing left for suspension is a Moser 12-bolt to handle it. So #1 aluminum heads #2 cam #3 porting. Last but not least save up for the moser, or atleast until the 10 bolt gives out.

You're stock heads are fine, just have them worked. Step up to the CompCam-306 (you'll need a good tune to take full advantage of it's grind). My buddy runs mid 11's with that cam/head combo (the secret's in the heads)...

I would go in this order if I were you.
    1. Headers and aftermarket exhaust to your liking.
    2. If you have an A4 get a 3000 plus stall converter.
    3. Gears 3:73 for Auto and 4:10 for M6
    4. Head and cam package, Loyd Elliot would be my choice. If you are worried about stock drivability go wilth a smaller cam.

An Ls1 would be out on an Lt1. However remember the Lt1 had 325 hp.
The guy in the Ls1 must have missed a shift. HaHa!
