LS1 240SX vs. Heads/Cam Camaro SS
Decided to take the LS1 240SX to work yesterday. As I left, a black Camaro SS (looked sharp) came up behind me in the turn lane. So we hit the turn and he gets around side of me and tries to pass me, and I clutch kick and hit it to the floor and catch his speed. We both let off and coast to the next light. The driver looks over and was like "Holy shit, what you got in that thing?". I told him it was his motor (LS1). So I asked if he wanted to give it a go and he agreed, since there was no traffic in front of us. We were both on drag radials. Light turns green, we both launch... I catch a rough patch of road and spin the tires through first, he hooks and gets out about 1 car. I hit 2nd and bog a little, hit 3rd (I'm right at his door), I shift to 4th and I pull about 2 cars on him, then shut down. I was pulling really good at the end before we let off. As we slow down the road was still clear, so we kind of look at each other, and he smirks and downshifts to 2nd. I throw into 2nd a bit late, but catch his speed, shift to 3rd (out about car), shift to 4th (I'm out about 4 cars).
So we slow down to the next light and he wants to chat a bit. He says he's running heads/cam setup /w bolt ons, which kind of stumps me since my car has a stock LS1 with bolt ons (which I tell him).....hrmmm.... he must have had a baby cam. He says the car runs mid 11s in the quarter, which strangely enough is exactly what I run, yet I pulled him....hrmmmm. All in all I gave him props since it was a fun run and his car was really clean.
That's my first race this year...

Maybe he runs like 11.7 in the quarter? Who knows, it's the street, maybe his best pass is a 11.7 but he consistently runs 11.9...never know. Helluva good race though!

I doubt it was heads/cam setup like he claimed, maybe just a cam. I know what a heads/cam LS1 sounds like, and I was really pulling him hard from 3rd gear on. Sounded to me like a nicely done bolt ons LS1 with a small cam, since his idle did have some overlap. From what I could see it definitely had true duals at the back, and he was running some BFGoodrich drag radials. He had 3 gauges on his pillar (for what, I have no idea). His car was also a 6 speed, like mine, and he was shifting pretty damn good. If I had to guess he might have had a baby cam and bolt ons.... or maybe a poorly done heads/cam setup. Who knows? He lost anyway.

Ehhh.... not when I'm racing. It was one of those shitty roads that had some unlevel surfaces. Of course his lane was clean but mine was kind of shitty for the first 60 feet. One of my tires caught it and broke the rear end lose in 1st. I throttled it of course to keep the rear end in check, but this caused a bog in 2nd because I didn't want to smack the rev limiter on an stock LS1 in order to keep the revs up.
Just some random facts, a 4.083 final gear in the rear end comes stock in these cars, so it's almost like having 4.10s in an F-body..... for free. I don't think the guy's SS was geared, since I was rowing through the gears faster than him.

I don't think my LS1 car would be enough to run some of those cars in it's current state.
Some of those Mellon Tuning EVOs are retarded fast. I've seen some of the videos.... my other 240 is running in the 10s, it be fun to shoot the shit with all you guys..... and give some Mellon Tuning cars a run for there money.....
