Optimum No Rinse; Field Test

This is a product that everyone of you should ask for a stocking stuffer this christmas. Optimum No Rinse, better known as ONR, is a unique formula that skips a step in the washing process: rinsing. Yes, I said skip the rinse. You add about 1 oz to a gallon of warm water, wash then dry a panel at a time. With out using a lot of their marketing terms, the product has a slick, oil like quality which actually lifts dust and grime above the clear into your sponge, so when you go to dry it off, all your doing is picking up the water reminents-all the dirt is in your sponge and you never scatch/swirl the clearcoat. I was shocked, but when I looked at the drying towel upon finishing the car, it was as clean when i had started-not kidding. Truthfully, you only need one bucket too, b/c when you dunk the sponge back in to resoak it dispenses the dirt and the ONR pushes it to the bottom. Best results would be a bucket with a grate to scrub the sponge with-but it's not necessary. The whole car took me a little over 1 hour. Honestly, i thought that was too long. I mean, I was working the whole time; constantly washing, dunking, drying, repeating, where as when you have a hose or power washer, your just zippin along. A unique upside to this product is it leaves a great shine! Unlike when you dry a car with chamois and remove the wax. Ok don't believe me? On to the pix. Car hadn't been washed in about a month. I had done 2 auto crossings and driven it on the highway/parked in dusty ass downtown during construction-you can see she's filthy. I would consider ONR like a really indepth "quick detailer."

Before: lots of dust alll over the car, look at the wing and above the door handle for most obvious changes

After-deep and glossy, THIS IS NOT WAXED

Glamour shot-see the reflection? Not a scratch in the paint.

It's quality stuff. I was very skeptical, but it was freezing out last night and I needed to wash my car badly, so I busted it out and was very happy with the results.

Where do you find it and how much for a bottle? I have the "two bucket" wash down to a science for our Trans Am. I would consider this though for our DD's as it would result in a lot less water in the garage when we wash cars in the winter.

omg the floor was spotless until i did the wheels. Was realy nice. Autogeek has an $8.00, 8oz and a $16.00, 32oz (which comes with a free drying towel-i would actually suggest that, as you'll need one anyway)

I guess if you're trying to wash the car inside it would come in quite handy.

My car gets all its baths in the driveway

That would be a Southern California perk. I always like washing a car outside in January and having the water freeze to the car. Works especially well if the wind is blowing to add to the enjoyment.

Yeah, I guess it is one of the perks of living out here in earthquake, fire, flood and mudslide country

Funny you say that-considering the developers made it due to Cali's tree hugger laws to prevent wasting water and rinse water from going down river drains. This is also good for places like texas and arizona where they go through drought season and aren't permitted to use water for washing.

My guess is that the shaking from the quakes and heat from the fires helps to dry the cars a lot quicker.

Yeah. We aren't allowed to let the hose run. Which to me is just common sense anyway

I have nozzle on the hose and it only gets used when I rinse. Shoot, I have to pay for water, why would I want to waste it anyway

But, there are people like the guy up the street that washes his car and there is always a little river running down the street when he does

My car gets pulled out into the driveway, hosed down good then pulled back into the garage and dried. I don't remember the last time I actually washed the car.

I can't go without it. It has become an
essential part of my detailing. And it's saved some
