my belt keeps squeeking

i just put in a 220 amp alternator for my new amp. it is a p.3000.1 from massive so i kinda had to make the alternator change cause the warranty on the amp says that you have to have a 200 amp alternator or more for the warranty to stay valid. but back to my real question. every time i start my car now i am hearing a squeak sound from the belt. now i know this is from the new alternator. so do i need to get a different belt or what to get the belt from squeaking?

you could try a new belt but no gauruntee that it will fix it. belt might be slipping because it's harder to turn the 220amp over the stock alternator.

Have also heard great things about the gatorback belts. A little bit on the $$ side, but I have heard they will eliminate squeaking.

To get rid of my squeak, I ran the engine and sprayed all bearings/pulleys with WD40 and found that my alternator bearing went out. Put a new alternator in and it was 100% squeak free. Also, my belt tensioner wasn't holding any tension whatsoever. Double check your alt and all pulleys/tensioners when you check your belts.

thanks for the info, ill look into the gatorback and see what i can get. would i actually have to check my alternator bearing if its new? i am just getting annoyed already with that noise it is making. i am at a stop light and when someone sees my car they have that look like i have a nice car and then they hear the squeak..........then the nice car look goes away. lol but now i think my wire to the alternator is too small. does a 4 guage wire sound good to use or should i use bigger?

an are you askin 4 ga for the amp? there should be a chart you can look of that will tell you what wire size fits what voltage.

Might have to change the tensioner with the belt. They do wear out.

sounds like the bearings in the idler and/or tensioner pulleys may be wore out, i highly doubt that the alternator being harder to turn has anything to do with it, and you may wanna put a fresh belt on.

First, make sure the belt is routed correctly.(it can be routed wrong and still work).
Get a #4060790 Gatorback belt for a stock length drive belt.
If that still doesn't solve you problem get a new tensionier, and if money permits get a Katech manual tensionier.

*79 is your belt length in inches.

Sweacertofara

my belt keeps squeeking

I replaced a belt a few months ago and it just broke again. How do I tell if the pully and or spring is the problem?

Sounds like your belt tensioner is going out, like others have said. I had the same problems with my last TA.

I had that problem ended up being crank pulley balancer had a wobble. Sometimes I get a squeak I put blk silicone on belt every where & start and solved that problem! Dont laugh because it works.

I also heard that if you put coke cola on your belt it stops it from squeaking to, havent seen no evidence to prove it but if it does I might try it lol quick couple dollar fix.

I am seeing a big thing everybody missed
high out put alternators have a smaller pulley so the alt gets more rotation for lower rpm
get a smaller belt and try that

That would only be a factor if he installed an overdrive alternator pulley, which is noticeably smaller than a stock size pulley.

Overdrive, top
Stock, bottom
