I have a good friend with a modded 2005 Powerstroke, and while their drag coefficients suck, and they weigh 6,000 lbs., don't let them fool you. With a programmer, intake, exhaust, upgraded intercooler and high ram, his dyno (which I saw in person) was 500 rwhp and 790 ft/lbs of torque.
Now, throw in the fact it is 4wd (every diesel that races launches in 4Hi for traction), and you have a 6,000 lb truck pulling better 60 ft times than a lot of cars. When you have 750+ ft/lbs of torque, 35" tires are nothing. In fact, the increased surface area will help them with traction (imagine launching a vehicle with 500 rwhp and 750 ft/lbs of torque on crappy, stock 265/70/17 tires). As someone else mentioned, without a power adder - like propane, methonal or nitrous - they aren't going to be that fast top end. But I bet a tuned diesel (Duramax, Cummins or Powerstroke) can and will pull better 60 ft times than stock or near stock LS1's, Mustangs, etc. Why? They unleash tons of torque and have zero traction problems with 4wd. Food for thought - Video #1 http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...b900313325.htm Video #2 http://youtube.com/watch?v=5B-nU2qj580 So, racing one from stoplight to stoplight will probably end with consistent losses. But, where you can beat a mildly modded diesel is top end, and I'd expect a stock LS1 to do that. It all depends how many mods the diesel guy has, and what type of race it is. One of my friends has an F-250 with 5" exhuast, injectors, chip. If hes in 4x4 you will definetly get beat off the line. I don't pass him until about 40mph. But when I do pass I fly by. Just make sure you have enough room and you wont get embarrased.

75-100hp more than a z28 is right around 400hp you must have some major mods you dont know about. cam? heads? if youve got 100hp over a stock z28 than you will have no problem beating him just dont spin the tires! |

But I was mainly talking the last Gen stangs, not the new ones. Which would exclude your example. I can believe it, although not in normal wx.

I just sold my Heavily modded Duramax. Spent $12,000 in aftermarkets: lift, tires, tranny, exhaust, intake 350 HP programmer. It was pushing around 650 hp at the flywheel and it was fast! At over 80 MPH you will have him no doubt in my mind. From a stop be prepared to be breathing in soot. Like earlier posted he will do a 4wd boosted launch. As long as you have some distance to race you will be fine. Find out exactly what he has and post it. Worse case is you loose and if you do then he deserves the win for spending that much time and money in his truck. JMHO

When I 1st started with my truck all I added was a transgo jr and a 1057 suncoast converter. and a exhaust and a PPE hot+2 et hand held tuner. Truck weight is 6900lbs BFG KO's Ran 12.99 @ 107 with 1.89 60's.I had all but 2,500 into it to do that and still get 22 mpg.But alot has changed with her now.

had the same thing happen when I was in a full exhaust on Z06 2003. I was riding down 16 heading towards 95S in Savannah,GA he pulls up next to me and was eggin it on I wasnt paying attention to him. I pulled in to get gas at the station before the freeway entrance he pulls in says he wants to run but he needed to swap out his tune (bully dog) I said ok sure he had 4 other rather big guys in there truck as huge/big stacks/big turbo just pretty nasty we hit the highway I gave him the go let him get a lenght or so ahead of me before I hit it I reeled him in so fast and past him like he was broke...damn truck weighs a shit tona dn then he had 4 adults in it .....you will murder this guy!
