The pros are that is cleans up the engine bay, less wires and hoses going to the intake/exhaust and no EGR valve sitting on the side of the head. Thats about it, no performance gain. Oh yea, it does save a few pounds though.
As for the cons, the purpose of the EGR is to cool cylinder temps and prevent the formation of NOx by adding exhaust gasses to the incoming intake air charge. Exhaust doesn't burn, so it has a cooling effect as it goes through the combustion chamber. However, the newer LS1 don't even have it due to a slightly different cam profile and LS6 intake, so I wasn't too worried about taking mine out.
pros: like wesman said, cleans up ur engine bay, makes it easier to change ur plugs and wires
cons: ru car wont pass smog
Yeah I removed the EGR/AIR and saved probably 20lbs or so. Definitely cleans up the engine bay but don't think it adds any performance.
My EGR was stuck closed on my 98 and it was causing the converter to lock and unlock around 1500rpm. Cleaned up a lot and improved idle in mine.. buts thats a 98 with a ton of miles on it as well.
98s ftw!!!!
