go very slow! and take your time getting around the oil sending unit which is right behind and towards the right of the intake but in front of the brake booster vacuum hose. lots of guys break em and your gonna have to get a new one as well as the socket to put it in as a regular deep socket isnt deep enough.
You will either have to grind the bottom of your LS6 intake or buy LS6 coolant lines.
NAPA has the only socket that will fit it correctly. the others are too tight.
What size socket do you need from Napa?
If you break it, when you buy the sending unit just take it down and size it. I think it is a 1 5/16 BUT i could be wrong as my dad has it right now changing the one in his Silverado. I will see if I can find you the link.
shit if you break the opsu..then no need for a deep socket..a regular will work since its broke..then just hand tighten the new one..however..make sure you unplug the opsu first..that will give you more room to lift the brake booster over the opsu..and you wont break it. its easily a two man job.
hand tighten and then when you can't figure out where the oil leak is at............
To the original poster, to install them the "right way" as you stated could mean different things to different people.
To me it means to avoid all the grinding on the intake crap and go through with the purchase of the correct coolant lines, plugs, and the seals for them. Also a new set of intake gaskets is good insurance. Some re-use the old ones, I prefer to not take a chance of doing it over.
This stuff will set ya back another $150 or so. Just depends on the person I guess.
you mfers..just noticed it started to leak :( ..now i need to find a place that actually sells the right size..since before i was going to rent a opsu socket..but autozone and advanced auto both didnt have any that fit :(
The NAPA link was for the oil pressure switch socket but I didn't realize that it would expire.
It is part# SER 3458.
You have to get it tight enough for the crush ring to do its job.
Shady, I hope it didn't make too much of a mess for you. There is nothing worse than trying to get an oil leak cleaned up.
thanks guys
whats the torque on that bisssh
