Small Block Sophmore

Hello everyone. Nice site you have here. Im in my late twenties and I come off an Iraq combat deployment. I just built my first Small Block chevy from scratch (its 86 and earlier model GM block, got the block from GM new) I have yet to fire it but it is in the car and im just reconnecting the top side and plumbing everything with push lock hoses (oil/trany coolers, tranny filter, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator) so its alot of plmbing.

At any rate I may be coming into an LS1. A friend bought a replacment motor for his 99 STS (the LS1). And he may ask me to refresh it for him, or maybe i will just make him an offer.

So my question is there a manual thats got every schematic, diagram, torque setting, clearance etc. guess I could just order any 98-02 Firebird/Camaro GM service book (the telephone size book)
Also, Im not seeing an LS1 overhaul gasket kit anywhere. I see an LT1 gasket overhaul set for $160 from Jegs. Fel pro part number HS9966PT. but not an LS1 overhaul kit. I called too and tech said no.

Those are the two primary items ill need if i get into my first LS1 project, which seems like a very good possibility. A good service manual straight from the manufacturer, and a gasket over haul kit.

getting ahead of myself but what are some time tested, dyno proven recipes in the $500-$1000 range? cam - exuast. Money is an object. I spent alot on this first small block and am not able to repeat. but could re-fresh an LS1, and maybe throw a cam in there.
The goal would be reliable street driver with alot of balls.

welcome to the site. I am not sure about the links in this site. Also try LS1TECH.com, there are a lot of links on there and a lot of people that know what they are talking about! I myself are new to the site!
