Old Guy New to LS1 Technology
Hi Everyone,
Glad to be part of LS1 Performance. What a great engine with all it's
technology and power potenal.
Anyway I am 62 and hail from hot Southern Calif. I have been around cars
all of my life and still enjoy them a whole lot. All of my cars have been
GM of course. The ones that eren't at least had Chevie engines in them.
Currently I have a 62 Corvette with a 383 stroker motor. A 1970 Chevelle
SS with a the orginal 402 CI BB and 4 speed. And my daily driver an 85
El Camino SS that I just replace the engine in with a 2005 GTO, LS1
and a 4L60E trans. Runs like a bat out of Hell!!!!.
I have some question about my new motor that I hop you all
can help me with.
Glad to be part of the group.
Joe

im not tryin to be a dick, but double check that engine. it if came from the 05 gto it is the 6.0L ls2. if it came from an 04 gto the it is in fact the 5.7L ls1. if you can see the part number on the engine itself that would help alot. im sure someone on here has the part number info to let you know what you have. both are solid powerplants in their own right. but the ls2 can have a bit more done to it to bump up the cubes with less problems than the ls1.

Hey Bubba,
Your right it's and 04. The mind is the first thing to go. Anyway it runs great. But have to
get it past smog. Your Z has the same engine right. I need to know were to find a smog schmetic or get someone to pop their hood and send pics or tell me where the lines run. Thanks for correcting me on the year.

your smog set up should be the same as an 01-02 f-body, mine is a 2000. in 01 they got rid of the egr system. the only thing that i remember smog wise is the secondary air system is pretty much a little fan that has vacuum lines going everywhere. i pulled them all out and the fan. mine is not an example that you should follow if you have even slight emissions restrictions because mine is illegal as it gets lol. the gto section can get you straightened out pretty quick with what you'll need and how it will needs to be ran.

Thanks Bubba,
I'll check with those guys. I Think all I need is a PVC, and a line that pickups somewhere maybe at the air cleaner for the fresh air sensor and a fuel vabor return line to the tank.
It already has the GTO cats and 02 sensors.
What kinda of air intake system air you running???

the f-bodies have an over the radiator air box. similar to the newer vettes but smaller. the air in bone stock trim comes from a 1"ishx14"ish(never exactly measured) opening in front bottom(right below the metal clips) of the air box that sit about 5-7" closer to the front bumper compared to the radiator.
the gto intake is tubing that leads to the front of the drivers side wheel well.

Man,
Thanks a lot I like your air intake system that looks it would work
on mine. Can you tell me what parts I'll need and how to fabbricate it.
I have that same fuel filter on my El Camino. But it's on the left side
frame rail. So I may not need another vented source for fume tank return.
It should work from there. What do you think????
Sorry to be a pest and thanks for all your help.
Will have to get together some time!!!!!!!!!!!......
Thanks Again...........
