    Cordovan Brown Metallic
    1963 Chevy Impala SS

    New Member from SW Michigan

Hello, everyone. I just signed up for LS1 because I want to install one in my 1963 Chevy Impala SS. I currently have a 327/365hp with 200-4R trans and 4.11 posi. My wife and I were married in October 1962 and our first new car was a Cordovan brown 1963 Impala SS, 4 speed that was in a bad accident just a few months after we bought it. I couldn't be saved so we bought a 1964 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 to replace it, but we liked the Impala so much we thought "someday maybe." In January 2009 my son and I drove to Methuen, MA and picked the current car up and proceeded to make it like our original, except this one is an automatic. Here is a link to some pictures of our car. https://picasaweb.google.com/1154106...ImpalaPictures

I just picked up a 5.3L from a 2001 Silverado and am hoping to install it in the 63 as soon as possible. I could really use some help from the members here. I previously installed a 305/TPI in our 1931 Chevy street rod, and it turned out real good, but not without some issues.

I look forward to hearing from the members here. I am also Lynn63 on Chevy Talk. I use the handle Dmaxin because my truck is a 2007 Silverado Classic with a DuraMax and I love it.

    Thank you,

    Lynn

Welcome! That should make for a good running Imp!

First thing to do is jump on Amazon.com and pick up an LS Swap book or two as they will provide some good details on the process. Do you have the PCM and engine/trans harness from the donor vehicle? Common issues will be interfacing whatever gauges you utilize with the harness and upgrading the fuel system to meet the LS1's requirements. They do make manifolds that accept carbs if you want to go with an old school look. Good luck!
