Well I picked up a '79 Trans Am project car. It ain't much to look at right now but when the weather gets better i will start working on it.

Here's the plan so far.

Needs a complete interior. Previous owner was setting it up to be a track car and stripped it out.

The body is in great shape other than paint.

It has no motor or tranny, which I was looking for as I was planning on going with a 496 big block and a 700R4. The LS376/480 changed my mind. Now I'm thinking that and a 6-speed.

BB496 - 600lbs (couldn't find a firm number but with aluminum intake and heads that should be in the ballpark)
LS376 - 415lbs

I'll trade 75 pound feet of torque for the 185lbs savings and fuel injection over a carburetor.

I will probably just have a cage and sub-frame connectors put in and get it over with. No point waiting with no interior in it now.

I know I want a 6-speed but I know nothing about them. Some Google-Fu seems to indicate I should go with the Tremac TR-6060. Although I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them, not that I need it now. I want to get the shell ready first.

I like cowl hoods so I think I'm going with a 2" cowl hood.

Haven't made a final decision on color but am leaning toward DuPont Chromapremier Pepper Grey with Black graphics.

I expect this project to be completed spring or early summer of 2012. I want to be at the Summer Nationals next year.
