ls1t56 flywheel machining question
I've got a 2000 WS6 TA T56 and I need to replace the stock clutch. I have a brand new 2001 pressure plate and disc. My question is can I machine the flywheel and will this create any balance problems?

Welcome Actually recommended that you have the flywheel resurfaced when installing a new clutch. Kinda like doing your brakes, you'd resurface the rotors for your new pads right?

Yeah I know about cleaning up the surface and stuff. I have an accuturn brake lathe that is strong enough to turn flywheels. My question is, if I turn my existing flywheel, to remove hard spots and rough up the surface so the new disc will bed in, will the removed material from the flywheel cause an engine imbalance? The reason I ask this is because most of the replacement clutches for this drivetrain come with a new flywheel. I have done lots of clutch replacements and I am an I-CAR certified tech. I'm just wondering about the flywheel deal.

so long as you're above spec on the flywheel and the lathe cuts even you should have no balance issues.
