Black- 1998 Z28 M6
Howdy from a new Texas member and a new LS1 owner.
And I do mean a NEW LS1 owner. I literally just pulled into the drive way a few minutes ago from picking up my first LS1. I bought a black 1998 Z28 with t-tops and a T56, both requirements, which was a hard combo for me to find in my price range.
It's completely factory stock except for a Flowmaster muffler and a functional Super Sport hood. Everything else is vintage 1998, down to the air filter and filter assembly.
It's kind of a project. It has some scratches in the paint that I'll have to work on and the hood is a 5 footer. The hood is painted black but it's not a very good paint job. I'm going to see what I can do with it. If I can't clean it up I'll have it repainted. The passenger side window and door lock controls work but the housing is broken and is just sort of floating in the door handle. A couple of knobs are missing off the radio(standard fair for every GMC I have ever owned, pretty sure it's illegal to have all of your knobs). And the seats have seat covers because the leather has seen better days. I'm going to be fixing all of this pretty soon.
But even with all of those little things, it's got what counts. A strong LS1 that runs like a bat out of hell, a smooth shifting T56, and pretty good handling. Even though I just got it, I did have a nice 2 hour windows down, t-tops off, high speed trip home to get acquainted with it.
I use to drag race and work on cars a lot right up until I had kids, so I'm no stranger to fast cars, but it has been several years since I've driven anything but a family car with an auto transmission. So the ride home was fun.
Immediate mods are going to be a short-throw shifter(probably a Pro 5.0) and a Volant Cold Air Intake so I can actually use my ram-air hood. Down the road will probably be some headers and a y-pipe and eventually heads, cam, intake, and throttlebody.
I've been lurking around here getting information for a while now but I didn't register until I actually owned the car. Now I'll be burning up this board with questions as I explore my new toy. I hope you guys don't mind.
I think I'll have fun here.
