Sunset orange metallic- 2001 Trans Am WS6
Hello Fellas,
I have owned my T/A over 3 years now and can't believe I'm just now getting on the forum! One reason why is that my car has been good to me, easily the best I've ever owned! It is a 2001 WS6 that had 62k miles when I got her, and just topped 171k, without ever saying to me "No I won't be taking you anywhere today." It is stock in the engine bay except for the K&N filter.
Early this summer, my service engine light came on intermittently until staying on for good after a few weeks. Codes led to O2 sensors. I replaced the front two sensors, along with plugs and wires. I had not changed these before, partly due to dreading the job, but mostly because performance and mileage had not degraded until this time when MPG dropped between 1-2.
Two sideline questions: Is it possible this car had original plugs at this mileage, because if they were changed, it was before 62k. Also, does anyone remove the right side cat to change plugs+wires? I found that to be the key in making this job quite routine instead of what I dreaded. I just had not seen that advice online before.
Now back to the issue at hand, which is a persistant warning light. I ended up replacing the rear two O2 sensors as well, perhaps needed, but not the apparent cause of the light and a somewhat rough idle that I didn't have before all these changes. After a reset, the idle is very spotty, up and down, with occasional stalls until the computer kicks on the light and makes whatever adjustments it does, giving me a fair idle. Road performance seems pretty normal, and mileage is roughly the same. Codes are 171+174 lean readings. I did read here just tonight that the oil on my K&N could contribute to a foul reading MAF, and I am going to hit that next.
Otherwise all is good and I'm glad to be here. If someone knows of something I am overlooking or may have done wrong, please fill me in. Thanks!

Welcome! As far as taking your cat off to change the plugs seems more trouble than its worth. I just took the coils off and it really was a easy job.
