    Unhappy 2800 stall torque converter

Hey there, I'm a new member & this is my first post. I own 04 gto A/T had few things done recently: I put a comp cam liftintake .566 exhaust .568,7.4000 push rods,springs,2800 stall torque converter, off road headers. Has anyone out there had similiar type of modification done? if so how is your city gas mileage? I was told i would loose 1 to 2 miles per gallon but I think i'm loosing least 4miles per gallon. I wasn't paying attention before but i'm sure bone stock i was getting least 15 MPG in city driving, now i'm onlg getting 10 miles per gallon & i don't get on the gas pedal. This is significant loss in gas mileage. I did this modification because they guy who did this i told him this is my daily driver in summer & he told me i would loose few but i was never told it will be this much. Any inout would help.

For your mods, the city MPG sounds about right. Whoever told you, you would lose only 1-2 MPG didn't know what they were talking about unfortunatetly. Welcome to the site btw.

you didn't say so in your post, but have you had your car tuned yet? If not I would get a tune.

Yes, I did get the tune. I was little disappointed but maybe I was expecting little too much. Before modifications my car had 325 hp(with k&n air filter kit, flowmaster exhaust from cat. back), after modification & throttle body by pass it has 362 hp. Was i wrong t expect least 60 to 75 hp gain after adding a cam kit,off road headers, & 2800 stall torque converter? Also anyone out there with stock motor on 04 gto(LS1) a/t tell me what you're getting in city driving (mpg).

well dont worry about dyno numbers...the stall will eat up some horsepower but will make you faster overall. Take it to the track and see what it does.

Question, does your 3200 stall torque converter lock in at 3200 rpm when you are at stop foot on the brake & rev up the rpm to launch? I ask because my 2800 stall locks in at 2500 rpm. Is this normal or do i have a 2500 stall torque converter instead of 2800?

for around town driving what mph is your stall locking up? That will make or break gas mileage. Bad gas mileage just sort of comes with the bigger mods.

my torque converter doesn't lock up around town driving the rpm doesn't reach 2500 unless i press the gas pedal all the way down to the floor from stop.

Most convertors with a lock up lock at 45MPH I believe. I know my TCI 3800 locks at 45MPH.

it locks up wherever your tune tells it to lock up. Right now I have mine locking in 4th only at 45 mph. I would have to look back at my stock file but I think stock was mid 30's in 3rd.

From HPTuners. If you drive in D it will lock up sooner, provided you are not into the throttle.
