Vinci Tuner Question
Are these tuners tuned from Vinci for the persons vehicle set up that is buying it? Or can you just buy a used one and select from a variety of tunes for your car?

Here's a link from their site with alot of info
If you buy tuner used, you need to make sure that stock factory tune was loaded back into the car that the tuner was used on.
I had one for a short time. It worked fine for what it was, and I can't say anything bad about it, other than it didn't fit my needs. I wound up going with custom tune shortly thereafter. I paid the same price for a custom tune as the Vinci tuner retails for, and I get free re-tunes so it was a no-brainer for me as far as what way to go with my car. Knowing that I'd always have to rent dyno time to tune myself with any handheld, I'm way ahead of the game as far as cash outlay is concerned. Not to mention it's now tuned by someone who knows WTF they are doing...not someone who "thinks" they know...(meaning ME)Last edited by mrr23; 12-26-2007 at 05:52 PM. Reason: removed non sponsor link

The way I understand it it would be a waste for me to by a used one anyway because it's tuned specific for another persons set up.

Not true.
Evidently, you either didn't read the info link I posted, or maybe just didn't understand it.
The Vinci has several different "base" tunes that you can choose from. You pick one similar to what you have. Then, you tweak that tune to fit your needs. If tuner is "unlocked", meaning the previous owner installed STOCK programming back into his/her vehicle, then there is no specific "other person's" tune stored in the tuner. You have the several base tunes that Vinci has loaded into the tuner, and you adjust them as needed, then flash that tune into your pcm. If the car pings or blows black smoke or whatever, then you make a change and reflash it until you're happy with the tune. It's definitely a simple unit to use...

Exactly what I needed to know thanks. I just misunderstood it from the web site where it said "DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR ONE'S VEHICLE". I know the SCT tuners for Fords are tuned for a specific vehicle, that's why I was wondering.

I "think" the SCT ones give you just one base tune (for your mods) and you can modify it to an extent.
The Vinci gives you several generic base tunes to choose from. (I want to say 7 or 8, but not positive)

SCT does just give you one tune you can tweak around a little. I bought one and when I would rev my engine it took forever for the RPM's to fall. I sent it back the next day.
I just now bought an unlocked Vinci on ebay for $300.

My answer previously (in the other thread) was based on one car one tune at a time. Yes you can load the stock tune back in the sellers car and he can sell you the Vinci tuner.....but it is still canned tunes...I agree...a good street/dyno HP tuner is a much better tune and more cost effective.....

For $300 I couldn't pass it up. All I'm doin is a header install maybe LS6 intake and TB port later. If I need to upgrade in the future I should be able to get my money back. Just don't have time to go get it dyno tuned, and don't wanna mess with or put out the money for a lap top and tuning software right now.
Thanks for all the help though.

I bought one of those tuners from a member a while back and I love it.
Here's a good link from mrr23. One of our moderators here.

A custom tune solution is really the way to go.
As far as plug-n-play tuners the Vinci or Crane are a great bang for the buck.Last edited by Bearcat; 12-23-2007 at 08:42 PM.

Well I Use The Vinci Tuner And It Work Great. A Custom Tune Can Cost 4to 500 Dollas And The Difference In The Tune Is Maybe 10 To 15 On A Mile Setup. Now Going All Heads And Cam Fast Intake Then A Custom Tune Is The Way To Go
