Tuning advise for the electronically challenged

    Hi All

I have read the posts and most seem to agree that getting a tuner is well worth the expense. My problem is I have no idea what I will be able to achieve with a tuner and what I can't ( for simplistic reasons lets assume we are talking HP Tuner).

I have aquired an LS1 from Turn Key Engine Supplies (which is basically a 390hp LS1 with the truck style intake and fuel rails) and I am wanting to run this motor with an ECU and wiring harness from a 1998 Camaro (I will also be using the 4L60e) in a Toyota Landcruiser. My understanding is that the ECU will need to be reprogrammed and inter alia, the following will need to be reprogrammed:

    1. Remove EGR
    2. Override VATS system
    3. Remove rear O2 sensors
    4. Change tyre size
    5. Remove other emmission control sensors

The question is will I be able to do all the reprogramming using an HP Tuner or will I still need to send the ECU to a professional tuner?

Furthermore, from the posts it appears that the HP Tuner is the way to go or have better option become available.

Your advise will be greatly appreciated.

All that can be done relatively easily with HPT but the gig thing is getting it to run in a different vehicle if you are electronically challenged. With a swap like that, turning off that stuff in the pcm is the easy part.

    Thanks for the response.

Would the Turn Key motor not run successfully off the Camaro base map? In otherwords are the maps for the different motors significantly different?

    Any comments appreciated.

It will probably run, but if its 390 hp, it may not run like it should, or could. It will have to be tuned.

Well it seems that if I go this route I will be spending a lot of time on this forum asking questions.

    Thanks again
