Slow Tach

Hey guys I recently had 3.42's installed that replaced the 2.73 gears in my car. Before the gears I normally got a good hook mayb just a slight chirp and the rpms on the tach would climb to 5800 ish before it would hit the 1-2 shift. Now with the 3.42's it spins the tires from any speed in 1st and the tach can only reach about 5500 rpms before it goes into 2nd. When I had the car tuned the wot shifts were left alone as I wasnt hitting the limiter. Question is that since the car accelerates a lot quicker now and that its spinning the tires is that the reason for the lower tach reading? The gauge simply cant keep up with what the car is doing especially since its spinning the tires? I dont think just the gears could change what rpms it turns at the wot shift.

Gears can change your shift points. If I remember correctly the upshifts are determined by MPH, not rpm. You probably need to fine tune the shifts points in the computer.

Thanks cutlass just wondering though the car shifts fine 2-3 right at 6000 should the gears mess up all shifts
