    SES

I removed the AIR System plumbing from my 99 WS6 but decided to leave the pump installed and disable it by unplugging two electrical plugs located next to it.

When I inspected the check valve removed from the passenger side manifold it appeared to have a mixture of oil/soot inside of it while the one off the drivers side looked to be in good shape.

The first day I drove the car a few miles and no SES.

The second day the light came on after a short trip.

The car has 132K miles and basic bolts ons installed.

Have noticed the tips of my catback to be very sooty.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

Is the code for the secondary air? Depends on the code but probably throws it after 2 or 3 tests and failures. Passenger side air check valves seem to gunk up more than the drivers side, mine threw P1416 and had to replace it. Easiest way to disable the pump is to pull the AIR PUMP fuse under the hood, on mine it'll throw P0412.

    Thanks for the information.

    What do the codes mean?

I don't have a scanner. How can I find out which code is causing my SES?

I don't think by just pulling the fuse it will fully disable the air pump. You need to get the pump tuned out. While you are at it you might as well tune out the EGR.
To find out what code your car threw go to an auto parts store most of them have a scanner and will test your car for free.

As long as the PCM doesn't see a change in the AF ratio, you will have the MIL light on for the AIR. Just pulling the fuse won't disable it, it will cause the pump not to come on, which really isn't the issue. The issue is the code that it's throwing, BECAUSE it doesn't see the pump working. and yes after 3 failed tests you will get a MIL light on.

Will the SES light on cause any performance issues?

    Thank you

SES will not harm your car at all..
Ive rocked the SES light on with no EGR, no AIR, and gutted cats for over a year...

The SES shouldn't harm your performance. But if you are in an emission controled part of the country you will fail the test. I personally would not like the fact that my SES light would be lit all the time.

If it's just from the AIR, you'll be fine, the AIR and EGR don't effect performance at all... they effect emissions... so you'll be good. You can get the codes tuned out as well. But either way with the AIR removed you won't pass a visual inspection of the emissions components, even if the light ISN'T on.
