    Question about coolant temps

    Hey all,
I recently took my SS for a ride with the scan tool plugged in. I realized that my coolant temps where sitting at 200-205 while at cruising speed. Is that normal for a stock thermostat in our cars? Just wondering.... seemed kinda high to me, what do you guys think?

    Thanks
    -Kyle

Thanks for the response Cutlass... I know our stock T-stat is 195 degrees but for some reason i thought that was kinda high. I plugged the tool into my truck which has a 195 T-stat and that seemed to run around 187-190. I guess the large grille and fan clutch setup on the truck is making all the difference. On a side note I noticed my FTRA set up is keeping IAT temps very close to ambient air temp which is good.

Stock thermostat is 195-198 degrees with the fans set at something like 212 and 224 degrees. With our 180 degree thermostat and reprogrammed fans I finally saw a high of 205 on the scanner idling in traffic this weekend on a 90 plus degree day with the AC on. Usually runs 185 to 194 for the most part.

Yeah it seems 15 - 20 degrees over t stat number seems norm I guess. My 160 seems to run about 185 in high heat w/no AC.

keep in mind that the t-stat rating is just where it opens....the fans control the temps after that.
