Angry Predator Tuner - Not shifting at WOT

I purchased the U7198 Predator Tuner for my 2000 Pontiac Trans Am.

I raised the shift points under normal driving increasing the Upshift MPH vs TP parameter.

But now the car doesn't shift properly at WOT. The car hits the rev limit and hesitates.

Can someone please explain what other parameters I need to change?

Right now these are the settings I have:

    Upshift MPH vs TP 30%
Upshift RPM is at 5500 RPM for all shift points (tried setting this to 6000 and didnt work)
    Upshift MPH 1-2 (20 mph) 2-3 (40 mph), 3-4 (60 mph)

The car has 3.73 rear axle, and the transmission is fine because when I reset all paramters, the car shifts perfectly at WOT.

    Please help!

You have to leave it in Drive or Over Drive, and you might want to lower the shift point mph on 1 - 2 ...

First make sure your speedo is accurate. Then you need to set your MPH upshift and RPM upshift to match as close as possible.
If your upshift rpm is 5500 then try these MPHs
    1-2 = 37mph
    2-3 = 64mph
    3-4 = 113mph

Use this sticky to plug in your exact numbers and figure out your shifts

The guy that built my tranny said leave it in OD cuz it helps something or other (band pressure? drum clamping force?)...

Besides the computer can shift way faster than you can and it doesn't shift into neutral.

I just fixed a car for a friend of a friend that was going the same thing. He just bought the car about 2-3 months ago. Every time he would do a WOT run it would bounce of the rev limiter before it would shift. The weird thing was that it would bounce of the rev limiter at like 5500 RPMs. I opened up his file with HP tuners and noticed that the WOT RPM shif point was set for 5800 and the rev limiter was set at 5500. I put the shift points and the REV limiter back to stock and the car is fine. I think the owner before him had a handheld pluged into it. Now he is happy and I made $50 bucks.

If it were me I would only change one thing with the handheld. The shift RPM or the shift MPH. Try putting the MPH back to stock and just change the shift RPM at WOT. Take the car for a drive and see if it is better. What is Upshift MPH vs TP 30%. Does that mean @ 30% TP your car thinks it is WOT?

This is the explanation I got from Diablosport support:

"Upshift MPH vs TP is a table that uses your % throttle position and based on its input tells the transmission at what mph to shift at during part throttle driving. This is mainly only adjusted when gears are changed."

By increasing this parameter, the car shifted at higher rpm during normal driving which is what I wanted because the car just seemed to shift too early.

I know that this parameter is causing problems because I tried resetting all parameters and I adjusted just this paramter and the car had same shifting problems.

I reinstalled the origianl tune to the car because I got so frustrated with the WOT shifts, but I'll try adjusting just the mph and rpm parameters this time.

If all you are concerned about is your WOT shift just change what RPM you want it to shif at. Who cares what speed you are at. The way I understand how a car shifts is there are two things that need to be satisfied. 1) The MPH you want it to shift at needs to be met. 2) The RPM you want it to shift at needs to be met. Whichever one happens second is when the car will shift. It is just easier to control a shif with the RPM. Also you need to take in account trans slippage if there is any.

    I hope this helps.

Well I gave up and reset all the parameters to original and the car shifts fine at WOT.

So I know the transmission is fine then.

I tried everything with the tuner and I just cant get it to shift properly at WOT; what a waste of money and time.

It seems like as soon as I raise the shift points under normal driving, the car doesn't shift at WOT and support at the Predator website wasn't any help.

    Thanks.

Yes. I set the Upshift RPM paramter to 6000 for all the shift points.

I tried lowering it to 5500 thinking the car would shift sooner before hitting the red line and still I kept hitting the rev limit.

    Any ideas. Please.

My 1-2 is set at 5900 for a 7000 rpm shift. Go lower until you get it. Remember to leave it in OD for it to work.
