Could be the passenger side rear 02, but most likely it's the cat itself. Stock cats are covered for 8yrs/80K under the federal emissions warranty. Lots of threads here on bad cats - search for "P0420" (driver side) and "P0430" (passenger side). Sometimes they come apart internally and rattle too - you can also have the code erased with a scanner and see if it comes back.

Thanks, I have a better idea now......ill have to look at it sometime soon. Have to move it to another place for storage.
Will these codes clear themselves if the problem gets resolved, or do they have to be erased?

    Thanks!

The SES light will turn off after three consecutive ignition cycles without showing an error, but will be stored as a "history" code for 40 cycles unless it's erased. If the dealer replaces the cat they'll clear the codes. To verify if it's the cat or 02, you can swap the rear sensors side to side and see if the code changes...and it won't hurt to drive it.

If your car has less than 80k miles on it the dealer has to treplace the cat for free, under emissions law. P0420 was both the cat and sensor for me.

yeah, ive got 60K on it right now. I just hate seeing that damn light on. Ill try to swap the 2 rears and see what happens. I have thought about putting on a new Full exhaust anyways, just another reason to do it this spring i guess. But if it is a bad cat, i guess i wouldnt complain about getting a free one from GM either
    thanks!

Simple solution to this one. Get the free stuff from the dealer which is covered under warranty, the cats and tell them you want the rear sensors replaced under warranty too. Then as soon as they install the new stuff, take it all off and sell it for $$$$ and have your LTs and ORY installed. I netted over $200 for my new cats and rear sensors along with $60 or so for the stock manifolds, that paid half of my headers and ORY costs.

Damn Hurley, Might have to take that into consideration! Speaking of LT's and ORY's, what kind of gaind could i expect from something like this?

Lts ORY & a good flowing CB should net you 25-30 at the wheels without a tune

def go to dealer..even if your car is out of warranty fed gov mandates that the manufacturer MUST replace emissions control system up to 80k mi

i had the same problem gm replaced it for free. but they make you pay fo the o2. have them replace it then go to autozone buy a o2 and put it in youre self its cheaper. the dealer wanted to charge me $100 AUTOZONE $60.

Sounds like a crappy dealer, if the cat was bad - then the rear 02 was doing it's job, right?????
