Check the CIG/ACCY fuse on them - could just try the Cig lighter - they(OBD port & cig lighter) are on the same fuse

Welcome to the board. Do the cigarette lighters work? Check the fuse labeled CIG/ACCY in each car, that circuit powers the DLC port.

    94 Trans Am

Anybody suggest a code reader for a 94 Trans Am? I have the older ODB2 port, the rectangular one with the notch on top. I bought a code reader that fits, but it doesn't seem to work. Then I had the guys at the store hook up a more modern version and it wouldn't even come on.

At first I thought fuse too, but my Hypertech works fine.

I figure there must be a very specific reader out there for the older cars with the first versions of ODB2 on them. The reader I have only has 3 pins and it seems one of the pins doesn't connect to anything in the block.

    Any suggestions?

Oh, after doing some research, it seems I may have an ODB2 port but have an ODB1 computer - in a hybrid called ODB1.5.

now how to get the code out!

Ok, after more research there is one recommended one for about 150 dollars on ebay.
