    hypertech programmer

so i know this guy that has a '99 WS6 just like mine and he's offered to sell me his brand new hypertech programmer for $100. his car is pretty much a track car and he bought the programmer to tune his car but never used it because he became friends with a guy that tunes LS1's shortly after getting it. he says it's still in the box and he has no use for it. is this a good deal or does hypertech suck?

    I had a '99 Trans Am, A4 with 2.73 factory gearing.

With SLP exhaust and lid, the car ran a 13.7 1/4 mile.

With the Hypertech added I ran consistent 13.50s, and deprogrammed the times dropped back to the 13.70s. So I noticed the difference, particularly on the 1st to 2nd shift with the auto tranny.

For $100 bucks I'd snag it.

Hypertech is junk imo. Doesn't really tune your car either.

i agree, its a waste of money. If your gonna tune the car you might as well do it right! frost's tunes are only $125.00. Ive seen alot of those plug and play tuners really mess up your A/F and timing. thatS my .02

YMMV, but I like the one I bought for $100 (too) cause I was able to do other things to my car like set the cooling fan temps, auto shift points, etc. Not all of us go drag racing all the time, if you plan on doing so then no, this isnt for you.
I say for $100 go for it. YMMV
