    HP gains via a chip

Hey all...sorry in advance for the stupid question..but is there a reliable chip that is plug and play that will result in HP gains ? If so do you know where I can get one from ?
    Ive got a 02 Camaro LS1 engine in a 87 Porsche 944 Turbo body..
    Thanks in advance
    Regards..

The closest thing to a simple "chip" when it comes to OBD II systems are the little hand held tuners. Plug it in and answer some questions is about as easy as it gets. (chips were gone after about 93ish??)

Handhelds are okay for recalibrating the speedo, or firming up shifts in the autos, and a couple of other simple things, but they don't add much HP and the EPA has really cracked down on them so you can't do alot of things that they used to be capable of, like deleting 02's and other smog stuff. Hardly worth the price of those things. Unless it's given to you I'd recommend looking into a custom tune by a good known tuner. Frost does mail order tunes here and is excellent. Or find a good tuner with a dyno in your area.

You could always buy the software (I use HPtuner) and a laptop and dabble on your own too if you wish.

Agree with FBJ. Many members here run a Frost tune, and I've yet to hear any kind of complaint. It's relatively inexpensive too, especially compared to the handhelds.

Is there a way to download a tune from Frost(or whatever tuner ) into a hand held? Just curios?

That would be a question for Frost. Diablo's are capable of storing multiple tunes but the tunes are generally installed only by Diablo approved tuners or supporters of Diablo.

I don't know if Frost is one of those or not...

Probably still cost the same as just sending the cars computer to him and have him flash in a tune. Hard to beat his mail order tunes.

I think Frost uses a PC software for his tuning - like HPtuners or EFILive. Don't quote me on that though. As FBJ stated, most handhelds won't give nearly as many options for tuning, or have the capability to tune as in depth. That would probably limit anything Frost could do to pretty much what anybody else could with one.

You can change AF ratios, fuel trims, spark timing etc etc....granted you`d need a af meter to change af.

I know Frost mainly uses hptuners. I believe he has or has had efilive but as far as I know he prefers hptuners. There's really no easy way for him to get his tunes on a diablo unless this is something recent he's started doing and I'm sure it would've been posted here if he was. His turn around time on the mail order tunes is excellent and you just will not find a tune that compares to his for the money. He charges less than half of what you'll spend on a handheld tuner. Plus he's a helluva nice guy.

I already have the HH tuner and ive talked to other members about my predicament, being from CA emissions wise i think its best to have the ability to save and download my factory tune for emissions test- some members think that Frost would be able to tune my vehicle so it would pass emissions without really knowing for sure i`d hate to have a tune on my PCM that wouldnt pass emissions! As it stands i have non complient Lt`s and hi-flo cats and CAI. Well see though? Thanks......

If you have HPtuner it's even easier for you. Frost can simply email a tune to you (no need to send out the cars computer). Then you can download that into your laptop with HPtuner and flash it into your car.
Simply download and save your stock tune file before you flash in Frost's tune and you'll always have it.

Or if you have a Diablo that is capable of storing multiple tunes you might be able to do this.....

Save your stock tune on the diablo. Send the cars computer out to Frost to have tuned. Then once in the car and running, you may be able to save that tune on the Diablo and flash in your stock tune,,,,and vice versa.

I know when I had a Diablo (which was an older version about 8-10 years old) it was capable of doing this. Mine had several tunes stored done by Vinci, and I simply flashed each one into the car,,,then hooked up the laptop with HPtuner and downloaded them into HPtuner and saved it.
Then flashed the next tune into the car, then back to HPtuner and saved it. I think it had 5 tunes in it. I don't know if they are any good but I thought it would be good reference and a good teaching tool.

do you mean hptuner? If so then like FBJ said.....it's cake walk for you. He can do it via emails and you'll have your stock tune and his tune to switch between.
