fans not working.need some help
Hello
My cooling fans will not turn on .Late last night I removed the #2 fan relay and jumped the fan across the contacts where the relay goes and one of the fans came on.I tried jumpin the #1 fan in the same spot but it did not come on.it appears that fan is bad. I have a new relay that i will be putting in.Which way does the relay go back in?It seems that you can flip the relay and put it in 2 different ways.
Also how can I check the relay to see if it is bad or good?
Thanks

Fan relay
On GM cars/trks the relay will have numbers on the bottom 30,85,86,87,87A, if it is a 5 pin relay. If 4 pin you won't have 87A. If you jump pins 87 & 30 this will suppy power to fans. To test relay you will need a test light and a paper clip. Find terminal 85 in the relay box and check with test light with key on for power. I forget if term 85 or 86 will have the power but ethier way witch ever one has power go to other terminal and wrap paper clip around terminal on relay and have the paper clip hang out the side when relay is reinstalled. Turn key on and touch paper clip with test light to simulate a ground path for relay. The test light will not light up but you should hear the relay click. If it does click check fan power lead that power is at the terminal. Good luck
