And I agree with 0rion. Looks like a decently ported stock TB. It even has the bump stop mod which if its not done properly can cause the TPS high voltage codes.
doesn't that hole also look drilled out a bit? Hard for me to tell because it's been a few years since I've even seen a stock hole but that one looks a larger to me. I'm wondering if he doesn't have a couple things going at once here. The bump stop could cause the tps high voltage but really shouldn't effect the idle. On the other hand if the blade was drilled out the idle wouldn't be good one time and surge the next....it'd surge everytime I would think.
OP I know you said the pcv hose was taped up or something...go ahead and fix that the right way....may be letting some air in that way.

the 97-00 vettes had LS1 intakes with no egr. In 01 both vettes and f-bodies got the LS6. The only way to tell really is by part number or by the underside of the intake. There would be no reason for someone to swap yours for a vette LS1 intake though. On the side of your intake there's a part number.....post that up and I'll tell you what intake you had. There were even a couple different LS6 part numbers.
There's also no way of knowing really what cam you have without pulling it and having it spec'd.

I have never seen a factory/aftermarket TB with a ventury bypass hole that large..

you could probably look at some of the tables in the tune and tell if it's been tuned for a cam but that's about it.....is your car an auto or a manual?

No. Its just there for a base idle airflow. It allows the Idle Air Control motor to operate in its "sweet" spot. Without it, the IAC would have to be more open then "normal" and that would limit its affective range.

Mike, check all the things listed in this thread. Your car might just be in need of a tune if it's cammed. It's hard to say without having the car in front of me to trouble shoot. There's also know way of knowing what cam the car has. Everything points to it probably having a cam swap but there's know way of knowing for sure really short of tearing it down.

With the ventury closed I have never seen and engine that will run on the air through that tiny hole and IAC air alone..

Usually the ventury still needs to be cracked open some, and in concert with that hole and the IAC it will idle as air needs to be moving past the MAF for ir to function correctly.. Least that's how I see it..
