Code P1416

The service engine soon light came on last week. Took it to Autozone to scan. The code showing P1416 - Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 2 . Can anyone tell me what to look at first ?

Most likely cause is a clogged passenger side air check valve.

Yes, pick one up at the parts store and do it yourself. It screws into the metal pipe coming off the header, then connects to the hose with a clamp.

the parts are not in yet, but strange, the SES light went away, don't know if it's becasue the weather is 30 degrees cooler than the past few days. I am still planning to replace the check valves.

I took mine apart and cleaned the check valve and air pump with seafoam spray last night and this morning no more light...I drove it all day and so far so good!

Finally had time to change the check valves, the driver side didn't look too bad, the pass side was almost completely clogged. It had chunks of black stuff all over the inside. Probably could have only replaced the pass side, but I replaced both.

SES light has NOT come back on since the change.

I just cleaned the driver side one which was pretty bad....and no light again for a few days, I'm going to order new ones and just get it over with.

I think the computer can tell if the air injection is working by the o2 sensor. The o2 sensor will show the exhaust go lean when the pcm commands the pump to run so you might want to check your o2 sensors. You might have to find someone local with a scan tool to do this.

Also make sure you don’t have any holes in the tube coming from the air pump. There should be one main line and then a y at some point.
