    Check Engine Light

In the cold weather I periodically start my 02 Firebird. In cold weather when I let the car idle for about 20 minutes the Check Engine Light comes on. It happened again yesterday. Rather than taking the bird to a dealer to have the check engine light turned off, is there an easier way that I can correct the problem? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Yea, getting the code read and solving the issue. Resetting the light will do nothing.

Figure out what the code is. Post it up here and I'm sure you will get some help. AutoZone can read the code for you.

Here is what the tech wrote the last time the check engine light came on for the same reason as described above. "Performed tech 2 test code P0355 ignition coil control circuit #5. P0420 and P0430 catalytic converter bank 1 and 2 low efficiency." Thanks for your help!

    Those should help you.

For the P0355. Try swapping that coil to a different cylinder. See if the code follows it. Check to make sure the small wires going to that coil are not damaged, and that the plastic lock is in place.
