Can anyone tell me why someone might do this?

I have discovered that a previous owner of my car set the rev limiter at 5000rpm through coolant temperature limitations. Then set the WOT shift point to 6200rpm. Needless to say it didn't work out that well and until a few days ago I thought I'd bought a car with a bad tranny. Can anyone think of a reason why someone would do this?

I have no clue about tuning efi so as far as I know it's seems POSSIBLE however highly unlikely that there was a reason. But I can't think of one, and the tuner who fixed this for me couldn't either.

It's what happens when clueless people are turned loose onto a PCM... You'd be suprised how often this happens

Maybe he was a ricer and loves the sound of the rev limiter kicking in but at a lower rpm. I dunno
