I don't understand the first question (sorry) but you seem to maybe not be understanding the software credits. They have NOTHING to do with your car. They are not attached to your car or your PCM. They are 'spent' in the software of a tuner to allow him to tune your car. They exists in HIS software as a license for your PCM. They have nothing to do with anyone else's software or your car physically, except for allowing him to program it.

And for the second, I mean that once you do a few of a year, you unlock the year in your software and credits are never needed again. If he's done a bunch, he's charging you for credits as part of his profit scheme. If he's actually NEEDING credits then it means that he hasn't tuned many year 2K cars at all.

Ok I think that explains it better. So from here on out anyone else, including me, who wanted to tune my car with HPtuners would have to buy the credits unless they have my year/make unlocked already. haha Now you see why I kept asking questions.
So yes im sure the extra $100 was profit.
    Thanks again Frost.

hmm ok 1 more. so if someone, say myself, does NOT have my year unlocked, would they have to pay the credits every seperate time HPtuners was used on my car until it did get unlocked?

You still miss the gist a bit. The car never gets unlocked, only people's individual software. It's the same for EFI Live.

I think the way to look at it is rule the car completely out of the equation. The car doesn't matter at all. It's the persons cable that gets the credits so if they pay to put your vin on their cable then you're vin will always be good on their cable.

Yeah, and not all of us who buy individual licenses don't know what we are doing Some of us simply quit working for a lousy

Oh I'm in the same boat with EFI Live. I have been waiting for the must-have reason to buy the streams. They are too costly for what they can do for me to justify.
