Any computer hackers out here?
I just got a brilliant idea rather than to get a standalone reprogrammer. Is there a cable i can buy on ebay to connect my laptop to the car's service port and a place where i can d/l free tuning software? if so whats it called?

no, you have to pay for tuning software, and I don't suggest messing around with a tune without knowing what you're doing

The work involved to hack the newer computer requires a lot of skill ... no one is going to under take such a huge task and distribute it for free. Besides, you would not only need a cable, but an interface that would have the software communicate with the ECM, not an easy task. Then you would have to reverse engineer all of the definition files for most GM vehicles. As I said, a lot of serious hard work.
