Hp tuners gets the job done.

Hum - It doesn't look like HPTuners product will allow you to change fans, speed limiter, speedo correction for tires and gears. Or, am I missing something in there website that fixes those issues?
Also, can you modify say a Hypertech programmed car with this and still get the benefits of the speed limiter etc... that Hypertech gives you control over?
I like my Hypertech programmer for my '98 and bought it over 10 years ago but, would like to get more feedback on the tune with a tuner like the HPTuner. Just want to make sure I can still set all the other perameters for gearing, speedo, and limiters etc...

HP tuners gives you control over just about anything the PCM controls Everything you mentioned and more! VATS, AFR, timing,speedo/tire size, Limiter's (speed and RPM).Try reading their forum. There is allot more info in the forum over there then on the web sight.

here's the only comparison I can make
Hpp3 = wagon
Hptuners = F1 car

how much power would the hp tuners give me on a minor bolton ls1 and how much does it usually cost?

if I were you I'd check this link... the HP Tuner suite.
do a few bolt on mods, like if you were gonna do catback, go ahead and do full exhaust (catback, long tube Headers, Y pipe) so you tune a few mods at a time... you'd go to a dyno shop and they'd run the HPTuners software and tune it right. You can do it yourself, but it would take some hard work and trials till you get it right.
choice 2, if you just want a quick tune, get the Hyper Tech III handheld device...
for serious mods, heads and cam, s/c etc... go see a dyno shop. do HPTuners tunning software, it will nail you better gains and more granular tune than LS1Edit tune. my 2 cents...

Anyone here with a '98 have a programmer? Cause I had heard something about the 98 ls1 being different to tune than the later ones.

The programming is inheritly different in 97-98 LS1's than the newer ones. Not sure what the exact difference is, but I know they are harder to tune than the newer ones.

Hey Weberje.... 98's have a self learning computer of sorts so only basic hypertech programmer is available... 10-15 hp gain on some cars are seen
Vinci high performance here in Orlando has a tuner made thru Crane Cams that give you some options besides stuff like.... Ls1Edit .. There tuner gives you options like tire size fans/temp and limiter along with cam tuning and stuff check them out...www.vincihiperformance.com

A few differences between the 98 PCM and the later ones is, the Primary and backup VE tables only have half the resolution in the 98's. So it it a little more difficult to get it right after a cam install. Another thing the 98's will not accept any COS (custom operating system). This makes it a little tougher if you are going SD tune with power adders. There are a lot of good running 98 LS1's out there though, they are not bad, just different.
I tune with EFILive. Good luck.98 Trans Am, A4, 3.73, 3200 Vigilante, LCA's, reloc brackets, sfc's, panhard bar, adjustable torque arm, XS long tube headers, ORY, SLP CNC ported heads and all the free mods tuned with EFILive.
