    Whats that noise!

I have a 2001 t/a ws6 with manual trans. This car has never been raced or abused , is still all original, and I have not had any mechanical problems at all. UNTIL NOW, AND I NEED ADVICE.
When backing up a small incline hill I heard what sounded like my muffler dragging the pavement, I actually thought that the exhaust system had fallen off. Nope, not so. I drove about 1/4 mile home, engine ran fine, clutch seemed okay, gears shifted well and no odd sound. But, when I then attempted to either pull forward or move backwards the hellatious racket would occur again., sometimes as the clutch was being engaged and sometimes continued after clutch pedal then pushed in. The sound appears to be coming from somewhere under the engine area not the rear. I need to know what it might be, is the clutch going out (has not been slipping but has sorta jumped now and again going from gear to next gear). No fluid leaks, no strange smells, just sounds like it's trying to transform into some metal monster, HAHA. Please point me in the right direction. I won't even start the thing now because I am afraid I will do more damage. Could it be the throw out bearing? I hope it is not anything major. Please HELP! BEEST

No one have any ideas? I know you guys have torn down, rebuilt, added on, modified and in some instances even done a total restoration. Surely someone has heard this awful noise before. Just point me in a direction. Could it be the clutch, perhaps a pulley somewhere, maybe a motor mount, heck I don't know, but I am hoping one of you out there does. I hate for her to sit there and me not have a clue as whats wrong. It just plain hurts my feelings. WaaaWaaa

By your description it sounds like a u-joint. I would start there.

What is the history of this car? Have you been the only driver? Give us more details on the "has sorta jumped now and again going from gear to next gear" issue. Seems you may have a clutch problem, but we need more information for a proper diagnosis.

start with the u joints and wheel bearings just to be safe, and then check the clutch
