Shit comments? great grammar. just don't see why you would want to lower your rpm's. If gas prices are a problem for you then, then why not by a junker instead of getting different gears? Keep your toy for the weekend and drive your gas saver during the week....

His car,his decision to do whatever he wants. It'll be a like a factory geared car and there's nothing wrong with that.
My Z came with 3.23s',I'm currently running 4.56s',and with the 3 extra rearend assemblies I have in the garage, the next one I'm building(over the winter)will be 4.10s'(because I don't like going thru the traps in 4th),and then I'll also be building one with 2.73s' for traveling. It's easier to swap an entire rearend than to setup gears in the car.

Wow, That's pretty high rpms for 80mph. Mine are only around 2,000 at 80. I'm unsure what the stock gears for an M6 are, but maybe you should look into those.

2.73s and a tune would help. If you want to go hardcore you could go 2.73s with a m6... but i dont reccomend that.

You could stuff some 28" tires under it. That would help a little.

To me there is no Logic in going for a taller gearset to maximize top end speed.
Theoretically it works but in reality it will take longer to get to the desired speed and require more horsepower to sustain it.

Let me put it to you this way,
On a stock M6, 5th gear is used to attain the 160+ mph Top speed.
6th gear is taller so in theory the car should go faster in 6th right ?
Problem is in 6th gear the engine doesn't make enough power to overcome the drag.

BTW I'm in St. Clair Shores also and I seen your car on Gratiot a couple weeks ago I'm also on MiFbody.
shoot me a Pm so we can meet up I'd be happy to help you anyway I can.

not to mention it would cost him MORE fuel... it just doesn't make any sense at all...

The M6 story was to convey my point.

Even on the A4's a 2.73 car isn't any faster top speed wise vs a 3.23 equipped car. Again in makes little sense to take away a mechanical advantage.

That's a 26" tire. The 28 would bring down your rpm's at speed.
