what brand gear oil to use on new rear
Hey guys, i picked up a 3.42 rear end out of an 00 SS last week to tide me over till summer gets here and i can get a 12 bolt in it.... just wondering what gear lube oil you guys recomend. I was thinking royal purple... but i want to get the best bang for the buck.

i use royal purple in both my trans am and dakota r/t. They both have auburn differentials (T/A stock and R/T i put in) and the royal purple cuts down on noise and makes the differential perform noticeably better than regular dino oil or amsoil synthetic which i also tried. if u have the newer style zexel torsen differential, it might work better with something else but just figured id share my experience.

You can find the limited slip additive at AutoZone too. I just ordered some qts of royal purple gear oil, which doesn't require any additional additive. I had always used basic oil, but now that I have new gears, I want something with a touch more prevention.

I run Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W-90. Its got a wider viscosity range than conventional 80W-90, so it is better for colder weather. It also offers better wear protection and longer change intervals since its full synthetic.
You can get it at most auto parts stores, about $8 a quart.
