difficult not if you have a hot torch or a serious vice. they are nylon lock. Using a benzene with oxygen torch will get hot enough. cost $65 @ Lowes. A propane torce will not get it hot enough

A MAPP Gas torch is cheaper and will also get hot enough.

gm uses a nylon/plastic injection to permanently lock the caps into their keepers. either use a hydraulic press to snap the bond of the plastic and break the bond, or use a combination of heat to melt it out and pressure at the same time to push the caps off.

word of caution if heating them... it friggin stinks. you'll have hot, smoking plastic, rubber and grease all at the same time. ventilate your workspace.

plus it takes a min or so to get the plastic hot enough to go, but when it does it's like a zit. Pops and just keeps coming out like silly string.

The replacement U-Joints use clips to hold them in place.

I use a jig in my press and just fracture the plastic ring as I press the old caps off. No smoke and no smell, just a loud bang when it lets go.
