    Transmission tail shaft leak

So after the motor swap i noticed that i have had a pretty constant leak from the trans tale shaft. the other day i got under the car and it looked like the drive shaft was out of the trans a little more than normal. is this possible? everything is mounted up in the same spot as before. Or could it just be that the seal is bad? i dont think i over filled it, but i will check again this weekend. I havent had much time to tinker with it but any help would be great. Thanks

m6 or a4? none the less..the torque arms mount on the tail shaft creating a lot of stress on it from any car that isnt stock..i woulldnt doubt a stress fracture on the tail shaft..especially with a 408 stroker

Its probably just the tailshaft seal. I had to replace mine after I rebuild the trans. Go to Napa and pick one up, its easy to change. Just pry the old one out and insert the new one.

Replaced ours back in March -- actually had some fun trying to install the new seal. I do not have a seal driver and it kept popping back out as I tapped around the perimeter with a plastic hammer.

Had mine replaced under warranty. Didn't know I had a leak til I took mine to the dealer for a diff chatter. Had a pinion seal and tailshaft leak.

Thats sad when the local chain stores don't carry a common seal

Have a close look at the tailshaft bushing while you're in there too. If it's worn and letting the yoke move around more than it should, the seal can't do it's job well. Sometimes this even causes vibrations that people chase around with wheels, tires and even the driveshaft itself,,,lol.
Alot of people have replaced the seal for a leak only to find it comes back a couple months down the road. Because the bushing is worn beyond spec.

Just something to keep in mind.

Same here -- none of the ChinaParts stores had them in stock. I just went to our local transmission shop and he gave me one.
