T56 Related Questions.....
My 02' SS/LE has 123K miles on it. I have put the last 10K on.
Since I got it, if you shift into 5th under power, it will grind/grab. If you slowly shift into 5th, no problem.
When I let clutch out in 1st, I am getting a rattle that goes away as soon as full engagement happens.
Other than 5th issue, trans is perfect.
What is best course of action?
Thanks.
Jon

Silver & Blue- 02 Camaro SS, 04 GTO
I sounds like your syncro's may be on the way out. If that is the case then a rebuild is in your near future.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

The first gear issue sounds like clutch chatter....how old is the clutch?

Aside from J's question, does it ever pop out of gear?
Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

Since it's only 5th and you hear grinding, I'm going to guess it's your 5th gear synchro that's on its way out.
Typically though, those are less prone to go bad because most people don't shift into 5th at WOT. 5th is an overdrive gear and I would never recommend shifting hard into it.

This is my 5th LS1 T56 vehicle. 5th has done this since I bought it 10K miles ago. I have always treated 5th and 6th as granny shifts but did not have the pleasure of owning this one since new. I believe I am the third owner.
So I guess a new clutch (recommendations?) and a 5th/6th cluster rebuild is in order.

You get used to it. Like Jeremy, I also have a pretty aggressive clutch (Spec Stage 3+) rated at 850 lb-ft and I have zero issues driving the car in stop/go traffic. Couldn't even tell you what a stock clutch feels like anymore, but I can say I don't miss it any.

I like the LS7 as well. Good clutch, fits perfect, easy on the left leg and reliable.

2001 3.8 Black - sold- 2000 SS Black M6
I liked my LS7 with the Tick as well....it was REALLY grabby the first few hundred miles, stalled it a lot...but after that it was like butter...I could even start in 5th gear from a dead stop.
