to stall or not to stall that is the question

i wanna install 3.73's in the ta in place of the 2.73's. now the question is would it be recomended to stall it higher in addition to the new gears? would the big gear difference put to much stress on the rear and break it sooner?

    thanx for all ur info

Well to answer your ?'s . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . NO it will take a lot more than your gear swap to break the rear end. Put it this way I have more then a few street cars out there that are low 11 second street cars on 175 shot with drag radials,4.10's,6 cylinder springs, and 2800-3000 stall converters and they are ok. So yes you'll be fine.

Yes you would see an et improvement by putting a looser TQ con.

Start with the gears it will be night and day difference. Then do the V-6 spring swap with a pair of springs from the junkyard.

    Any engine mods?

Do it you'll be fine. Just spend the money to have it done by a PROFESSIONAL and not a friend of a friend in their garage. And I would straight up tell him if it whine's I'll be bringing it right back for you to change the set-up until it's quit like it's supposed to be. People say it's normal but it's NOT.

a stall can easily drop your e.t by half a second, while a 3.73 wont.

Just do some shopping sround and you can almost ALWAYS find somewhere running a sale on 3.73's.

How many miles are on your car?

With that low of mileage I wouldn't bother with changing the bearings they should be just fine. Save the money for other parts. All I would replace is the ring and pinion, crush sleeve, pinion seal, and fluid.

A stall WILL make your car quicker than gears. If you can't do both, do a stall. It makes more difference and it is easier to do yourself.

What would you recommend for my car? I have a 98 with 63,000. There is a slight drip from the rear end, so would I need to change the bearings or just the gears, ring & pinion, crush sleeve, and fluid? Also, I know very little about stalls, so what would be a good stall for a DD. If you have a stall, do they always launch at the higher RPM's or do you have to be under WOT?

Well I can tell you for a fact unless you enjoy doing burnouts and spinning the tires I would NEVER put a high stall converter in a car with 2.73 gears. That ratio even with a rubber band tire (25.5" tall) it's still by NO means a performance ratio for a LS motor that lacks bottom end power.

would it be smart to put like a 2800 stall in a daily driver with only a catback, intake, and stock 2.73 rear end?

I plan on eventually gettin 3.73's and a cam, but would a stall be stupid at this point?

    with just 2 boltons.

a stall is probably the single biggest mod you can do to an a4 car. The stall WILL drop your e.t. Mine dropped a little over 4 tenths after I put in a stall (3000 tci street fighter).

Just depends on what your stock gears are.

thats what i have the 2.73's i thought it would make a real big difference going from 2.73's to 3.73's rather than going from 3.23's to 3.73's
