    stall or gears

I was wondering if I would loose a lot of gas milage with a 2800 stall, and 2.73's.

as of now, I was really considering 3.73's because I can always do a stall later.

its my DD, and I want a little more scoot. right now, I can never get wring out 2nd gear with out goin way over the speed limit, and with 2.73's maybe I could use the rpm's more.

I quit carin about gas milage, but I would still like to get somthin with 2 digits if possible.

3.73 gears/stall won't effect fuel economy that drastically. You'll be fine. I had 2.73's in an old car so I know how much those gears suck. The 2800-stall will be perfect for you, considering you have a light bolt-on daily driver.

Worried about gas milage buy a toyota. Get a stall and 3.90 gears for an auto. Don't settle for anything else!!!!!! 4.30's here with a 6 speed daily drive it every day and still get 23.5 MPG with mods listed.

Do the stall first. Gas mileage will stay the same on the freeway.

I never ever ever touch freeway.

I am looking for my car to pull a little harder on the top end. will the stall have any affect besides helping the launch?

a stall and higher rear gear will give you less pull up top.
best bet to do first is a stall converter and nothing less than 3000 rpm

its an LT1. thats where it makes torque. its peak is like 2400 rpm.

I was gonna do a 2800 rpm tops. I am not doing heads on this car......but I will do a cam waaaaay down the road

2800-rpm stall is perfectly fine. It will match up nicely to your mildly modded LT1. This comes from personal experience as well.

so, when I upgrade the stall, it will pull weaker, but pull harder on the launch?

I am concerned mostly about 50-100 ish. I am trying to keep up with a 03 mach 1 stang. we havent lined up yet, but I wanna be ready. he ran a 14.0 at the track.

13.70's-14.0 is about right for your buddies Mach 1. From a roll it should still pull decently even considering it's a 4R70W-equipped auto car. Aside from the stall and gears I would recommend the cold air intake to go with your cat-back and you should get 'em!

yes, his stang is an auto. well, I enjoy driving the car as it is, and I am gonna make it louder here soon too, via cat modifications.......lol

TB Air foil has proven good for a couple horsepower. I guess every pony counts huh, plus thier cheap. The stall, gears, and headers are going to give you the most significant gain though.

I think the gears will help me pull on the top end more. and thats what I am concerned with. plus, I can get the gears, intake and foil thingy for the price of a converter.

so, I think I will do that. intake, TB splitter, and rear gears. should I get 3.73's or 3.90's?

The stall will make the car fun as hell to drive. But FYI you loose top end with gears.. With 3.73 I top out around 150/155 ish... Only way to stretch your top end out is with 2.73's... If you want to get to that top end quicker either F/I or Nitrous. I would just do a stall IMO if I were you... Or undestand that if you do gears you will loose top end.

I know I will losse top end, but I dont go anywhere close to 170 mph anyways.

I will mostly do 1/4 mile style racing, and occasional stoplight stuff. getting to the to 150 with 3.73's should take less time then with 2.73's right?

I think what you are looking for is to get up in the powerband quicker. Yes the stall and gears will take care of that.
