One on your car kinda looks like this.

Located at the center of the car, right next to the drive shaft.

Does anyone think this could be the y-pipe clunking against the floor and triggering the knock sensors to pull some timing out?

i thought that could be the case..but his car being a 02 ..if i am not mistaken (i normally am) the 98 knock sensors are prone to being over sensitive compared to the 02s etc.

i wouldnt deem it out of the realm of possibility tho. My car bangs quite a bit but doesnt seem to be slower than normal...i think the OP should maybe do the rubber hose mod just to see if the sounds go away...if so then can go about fixing it.

to the op. go to the parts store and buy some rubber hose. Then wrap it around both sides of the Y pipe where the clearance is close..you will understand once you see under the car. drive it and see if the clunking goes away.

*** note do this temporary. for a few minutes then take it off. ****

I'd be careful doing that. That rubber hose could catch on fire.

it was ment to be a temp thing...drive it for a few minutes and see if it fixes the problem..then of course take it off and get new poly motor mounts

Well my y pipe is no where near being tucked in. Thing practically drags on the floor. Would unavoiable potholes and occasional donuts break a torque arm?

i had a chance to check out the torque arm and the thing looks pretty solid to me. i dont know wat else could be causing this problem its really baffling me. again it happens mostly when i hit the gas from a stop, or when im going like 20 and i punch it. also when i turn a corner while flooring it the noise also occurs. its a rattling noise but its not persistent, only happens during accelerations. ive been hearing something else which im suspecting might be the motor mounts because it sounds faintly like the motor shaking. any help guys would be awesome
